Privacy Policy
How Indiestry collects, uses, and protects your information.
Who we are
Indiestry (operating at indiestryvoice.com) is a community platform for voice actors. This policy describes what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using Indiestry, you agree to the practices described here.
Information we collect
Account information you provide: email address, password (stored hashed, never visible to us), display name, username, and any optional profile details you add such as bio, location, pronouns, profile photo, and demo reels.
Content you create: posts, comments, replies, direct messages, group messages, community chat messages, job postings, and applications you submit.
Connection information: who you follow, who follows you, groups you join, and posts you bookmark or react to.
Usage information: pages you visit, features you use, approximate location based on IP address, browser and device type, and timestamps of your activity.
Communication preferences: your notification settings (in-app and email) and any unsubscribe choices you make.
How we use your information
Operate the platform: serve your home feed, deliver notifications, route messages, display your profile to other members, and match you with relevant jobs and people.
Communicate with you: send transactional emails (account confirmation, password reset, notifications you opted into, inactivity reminders, workshop announcements). Every email includes an unsubscribe link.
Maintain safety and integrity: detect spam, prevent abuse, moderate community chat and group content, investigate violations of our Terms or Community Guidelines.
Improve the platform: understand which features are used, identify bugs, plan future development.
We do not sell your personal information to advertisers or third parties.
Community chat and messages
Community chat is a real-time space visible to all signed-in members. Messages you post in community chat are visible to other signed-in users immediately and may be retained for moderation purposes. Pinned announcements may persist longer.
Direct messages are private between you and the recipient. We do not read your direct messages except in response to abuse reports.
Group messages are visible to members of that group. Group owners and moderators have additional visibility within their groups.
You can delete your own posts and direct messages from your account at any time. Community chat messages may not be individually deletable due to the nature of real-time conversation; report inappropriate content via the report function.
Email communications
We send the following kinds of emails:
- Transactional emails required for account use (signup confirmation, password reset, security notices)
- Notifications you've opted into via Settings (comments, likes, mentions, follows, job updates, etc.)
- Inactivity reminders if you haven't logged in recently (you can opt out)
- Workshop announcements when applicable (you can opt out)
- Periodic email digests (you can opt out)
You can manage all email preferences from Settings → Notifications. Every email includes an unsubscribe link in the footer that turns off that specific category instantly. You will continue to receive transactional emails required for account function (e.g., password reset confirmations).
How we share information
Service providers: We use Supabase to host our database, Vercel to host the application, and Resend to send email. These providers process information only as needed to operate Indiestry, and are bound by their own privacy and security commitments.
Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, to comply with court orders or government requests, or to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.
Public content: Anything you post publicly (your profile, public posts, public job listings, community chat) is visible to other Indiestry members and, in the case of public profiles, to anyone with the link. Adjust your visibility from Settings → Privacy.
Your privacy choices
Profile visibility: Settings → Privacy lets you toggle whether your profile is publicly viewable, whether your email shows on your profile, whether your online status is visible, whether non-followers can message you, whether you appear in search results, and whether search engines can index your profile.
Notification controls: Settings → Notifications lets you turn each notification type on or off, separately for in-app and email.
Account deactivation: Settings → Danger Zone lets you deactivate your account, which immediately hides your profile and content from other users. You can reactivate by logging back in at any time.
Account deletion: Settings → Danger Zone lets you schedule your account for deletion. We hold your data for 30 days during which you can cancel by logging in. After 30 days, your account, posts, comments, demo reels, photos, and applications are permanently deleted. Some information may be retained in backups for a limited additional period and in audit logs as required by law.
Data export: Email support@indiestryvoice.com to request a copy of your account data.
Age requirements
Indiestry is intended for users 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has created an account, please contact support@indiestryvoice.com and we will investigate.
Data retention
We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we permanently remove your data after the 30-day grace period, except where we are legally required to keep certain records (such as financial transaction logs, once payments are introduced) or to enforce our Terms.
Data security
We use industry-standard security practices to protect your information, including encryption in transit and at rest, hashed password storage, restricted database access, and regular security reviews. No system is perfectly secure; if we become aware of a breach affecting your information, we will notify you as required by law.
International users
Indiestry is operated from the United States. By using Indiestry, you understand your information will be processed in the United States. If you are in the European Union, United Kingdom, or California, you have additional rights under GDPR, UK GDPR, or CCPA respectively, including the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information. Email support@indiestryvoice.com to exercise these rights.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify members via email or an in-app notice. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates the most recent revision.
